Green Podkowa Leśna

park

Podkowa Leśna is the first garden town in Poland. It has already got this title on 9 April 1925, while its owners were: Stanisław Lilpop, consortium “Siła i Światło” and Bank Związku Spółek Zarobkowych. It is surrounded by Młochowski forest from 3 sides. You can find there many rare species of forest flowers, foxes, martens and lots of birds. In 1981 Podkowa Leśna was added to the register of historical sites because of its unique urban planning, development, housing and town’s greenery. Nowadays Podkowa is inhabited by nearly 4000 citizens. There are also 3 forest sanctuaries, 29 nature monuments, almost 14 km walking paths and 9 km of cycling tracks in the area of Młochowski Forest. Although getting energy from the Sun isn’t easy there because of a huge number of trees, the town’s priority is energy independence. In Podkowa there has also been the WKD railway since 1927. These suburban trains carry 6.5 million passengers every year.
